The article published on the website euronews.com on February 21, 2013
is headlined “Oscar best film and best director nominees”. The article reports
about the Oscar Ceremony 2013.
The main idea of the article is to show that
some films had several nominations. Firstly, “Lincoln” had a total of 12 nominations,
including best director for Steven Spielberg and best film. Secondly, the film
“Life of Pi” had a total of 11 nominations, including best director for Ang Lee
and best picture. This film was based on the bestselling book of the same name.
Thirdly, “Silver Linings Playbook,” had a total of eight nominations, including
ones in all four acting categories, and best picture. The film was about a
well-meaning young man with bipolar disorder, and was written by Russell for
his son, who also suffers from the condition. Next, “Beasts of the Southern
Wild” had a total of four nominations, including best picture and best director
for first-timer Ben Zeitlin. Also, Austrian Director Michael Haneke was in the
run for best director. His film “Amour” had a total of five nominations,
including best picture.
Moreover, 2013 had proved to be an unusual year
for the Academy in the directing category, with the exclusion of “Argo”
director Ben Affleck, who had won nearly every major directing award this
season, including the top Directors Guild of America prize. This film had a
total of 7 nominations and was the front-runner for the best picture. “Argo” was
based on the true story of six Americans who took refuge in the Canadian
embassy in Tehran
during the 1979 hostage crisis.
The author reports that the musical “Les
Miserables” based on the Victor Hugo novel was directed by Tom Hooper and was
nominated for eight awards, including best picture.
The author comes to the conclusion that one of
the most talked-about pictures of the year was “Django Unchained”. It was written and
directed by Quentin Tarantino. This film had a total of five nominations.
In my opinion, the Oscars is the ceremony that
worth seeing and the 85th Academy Awards represented the films which
were really the best in 2012.
Good!
