Individual Reading (Part 3)

The narrator continued his meeting both Charles Strickland and Dirk Stroeve but he couldn’t see Strickland’s pictures. In spite of the fact that Strickland hadn’t enough money to lead comfortable life, he didn’t sell his pictures. Shortly before Christmas Dirk Stroeve came to ask the narrator to spend the holiday with his family. Stroeve also wanted to see Strickland in his house that day. So they came in his cell and found out that Strickland was very ill. Stroeve asked his wife to let him bring Strickland into their house. Mrs. Stroeve hated Strickland but finally she agreed. They had been looking after Strickland for a month and a half, and after Strickland felt well he began painting in Stroeve’s studio. When Stroeve asked Strickland to leave his house, his wife said him that she loved this man and she was going to live with him.

The article was published on the website euronews.com on April 17, 2013. The article reports that the Tribeca Film Festival has forgone a splashy studio premiere this year, opening instead with the music documentary ‘Mistaken for Strangers’.
According to this article, the Festival’s co-founder, Jane Rosenthal, noted the change in direction that they were really looking forward to ‘Mistaken for Strangers’ because it was a documentary that they were opening the film festival with.
This extract is said that the movie set the tone for a festival decidedly glib on glitz. Firstly, one more factor was that year’s homage to Nelson Mandela, who had supported Tribeca ever since it was established to revitalize New York neighborhoods hit in the 9/11 attacks. Secondly, Robert De Niro explained that Nelson Mandela was with them for the first festival. And they had had many, a few events with Mandela when he first came to the States. In addition to, Robert De Niro said that it’s appropriate to do that then when he was getting on. He would be 95 soon. In this article the author gives the information that the 12th Tribeca Film Festival might close with a revival of De Niro’s ‘The King of Comedy’, but the programme was otherwise dominated by the personality-driven exploration of some titanic cultural figureheads, including Richard Pryor, Muhammad Ali and Gore Vidal.
The author comes to the conclusion that French director, Yves Montmayeur, interspersed cut-up frames of Haneke’s work in reverse with interview footage of the nominally elusive Austrian, who was seen talking candidly about his own emotional investment in his productions. Also the Tribeca Film Festival came to a close on the 28th April.
To my mind, I can say that in spite of the fact that Nelson Mandela was the hero of 1970s, his personality is popular nowadays.

http://www.euronews.com/2013/02/17/romanian-drama-wins-berlin-s-top-award

The article was published on the website euronews.com on February 17, 2013. The article reports that the highlight of the awards ceremony at the Berlin Film Festival was the presentation of the Golden Bear for Best Picture.
According to this article, it was won by Romanian drama ‘Child’s Pose’ which told the story of a domineering mother who used her social position to try and save her son from jail.
This extract is said that the film’s director Calin Peter Netzer explained the seeds of the film. Firstly, the idea for this movie came from discussions he had with his screenplay writer about the relationships they had with their mothers. Secondly, they added a lot of fiction. In addition to, the award for best actor was the surprise of the ceremony with amateur Nazif Mujic the winner. In this article the author gives the information about another film ‘An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker’. This film touches the idea about the Bosnian Roma. It was a message for all Roma people around the world, because what happened to them shouldn’t happen to anybody.
The author comes to the conclusion that it was the first time that a Romanian film had won a Golden Bear. After the international successes of Cristian Mungiu it was more proof that movies with strong stories from Romania could convince the jury at international festivals.
As for me, I haven’t seen these films yet but having read this article I would like to watch them. I think, the most interesting film is the film “Child’s Pose”.
